Foster Hewitt, who had been doing play-by-play since he invented the position, yields the honor to his son Bill on the Toronto telecasts.
Another important item to note is that for the first time, games are seen live coast-to-coast. Previously, games were seen live regionally in major eastern markets, and via kinescope elsewhere.
