2018 Wimbledon
As originally written by Tony Miller:
For two weeks each summer, professional tennis returns to the sport's most hallowed ground, the All England Club on Church Road in London. Over a 14-day span beginning Monday, 18 courts will play host to 674 matches: the figure includes 254 singles, 173 doubles and 188 juniors affairs, as well as 39 legends matches and 20 wheelchair contests.
Broadcast Schedule
ESPN returns as the exclusive television home of the event, with all 18 courts available for TV for the first time ever. ESPN and ESPN2 will show 126 hours of live tennis on their linear channels, in addition to five hourlong "Breakfast at Wimbledon" shows. ESPN3 and the ESPN app will have more than 1,500 hours of coverage, beginning with the first ball at 6:30 a.m. EDT (11:30 local time) each day.

Commentators
ESPN's crew includes host Chris McKendry; play-by-play announcers Chris Fowler and Cliff Drysdale; Jason Goodall, Patrick McEnroe and Pam Shriver all doing both analysis and PBP; and reporter Tom Rinaldi, who will also dabble in play-by-play. Darren Cahill, Chrissie Evert, Mary Joe Fernandez, Mardy Fish, Patrick Moratoglou, John McEnroe, Patrick Moratoglou and Rennae Stubbs are all analysts.
Cahill, the coach of women's top seed Simona Halep, will work only on men's matches. Moratoglou, who coaches Serena Williams, has worked both men's and women's matches since I started tracking announcers last year; however, this will be ESPN's first major with Serena playing in that span.
Courts
Play traditionally begins on the outer courts at 11:30 a.m. local time (6:30 a.m. EDT), with the stadium courts following at 1 p.m. (8 a.m.). None of the outer courts are lit; there are lights on Centre Court when the roof is closed, but the local government has an 11 p.m. local (6 p.m. EDT) curfew in place.
The only roof is on Centre Court, which seats nearly 15,000. No. 1 Court is slated to get a roof in time for 2019 and seats 11,360. No. 2 Court seats 4,000 and No. 3 Court seats half that. The remaining 14 courts are numbered 4-12 and 14-18; the old Court 13 stood where No. 2 Court is now.

Day 4 - Thursday, July 5th
If you assume there are 9.5 hours of usable light (6:40 to 4:10 EDT) on the outer courts and 8 hours (8:10 to 4:10) on the two stadiums, that gives 168* court-hours of usable light for the day. The schedule -- which, admittedly, assumes everything is an average length -- has about 164 court-hours of action, plus another 27 hours of time between matches. That's 191 hours.
*Of course, if the roof is already closed on Centre Court, you can play until 6:00, but a) that usually means play was halted to close the roof and b) that gets you about two more hours, not 23.
Schedule:
16 men's singles second-round matches (bottom half)
6 suspended men's singles matches from Wednesday (2.12 times the length of an unstarted match)
16 women's singles second-round matches (top half)
2 postponed women's singles matches from Wednesday
16 men's doubles first-round matches
5 suspended men's doubles matches from Wednesday (=2.33 unstarted matches)
16 women's doubles first-round matches
1 postponed and 5 suspended women's doubles matches from Wednesday (=3.03 unstarted matches)
67 complete matches and 16 suspended matches (about 74.5 matches worth of tennis, producing 83 winners)
Singles seeds: 11 men and 12 women from the scheduled halves of the draw; 5 men and a woman held over from Wednesday.
Americans playing singles: 3 men and 6 women from scheduled halves of draw; 2 men held over.
Weather: Sunny intervals and breezy with a high of 82. Precipitation chance 9% or lower all day. Sunset at 4:19.
TV: ESPN from 7a-4:30p. ESPN3 and ESPN+ (but not ESPN8, as far as I can tell) all day.
