2019 Wimbledon
As originally written by Tony Miller and JohnnyO:
For two weeks each summer, professional tennis returns to the sport's most hallowed ground, the All England Club on Church Road in London. Over a 14-day span beginning Monday, 18 courts will play host to 674 matches: the figure includes 254 singles, 173 doubles and 188 juniors affairs, as well as 39 legends matches and 20 wheelchair contests.
Broadcast Schedule
ESPN returns as the exclusive television home of the event, with all 18 courts available for TV for the second consecutive year. ESPN and ESPN2 will show 131 hours of live tennis on their linear channels, in addition to five hourlong "Breakfast at Wimbledon" shows. ESPN3, ESPN+ and the ESPN app will have more than 1,500 hours of coverage, beginning with the first ball at 6:30 a.m. EDT (11:30 local time) each day.
From last year, ESPN adds one hour on the front of the first five days. The second Monday’s coverage gets shifted around a bit but nets the same amount; rather than having both ESPN and ESPN2 start at 7, ESPN2 starts at 6 and ESPN comes on at 8.

The "Breakfast at Wimbledon" shows are at 7 a.m. on July 7 and both semifinal days, then at 8 a.m. on July 14 and 15.
ABC will have taped week-one highlights from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, July 8 and will air both singles finals on a six-hour delay (at 3 p.m. the same afternoon). ESPNEWS and ESPN2 will also re-air the singles finals overnight.
- The ESPN App will be the all-in-one streaming home for Wimbledon, with ESPN and ESPN2 telecasts and the matches streaming on ESPN+ and ESPN3. Combined, the app will stream more than 500 matches totaling 1,500 hours from all 18 courts (Centre, Courts 1-12, 14-18.), plus AELTC’s daily The Wimbledon Channel and two all-day feeds with press conferences from the media centre at the All England Club. Matches will also be available on demand afterwards.
- ESPN+ is also the home for on-demand viewing of annual official Wimbledon films as well as select championship and other memorable matches from previous years.
- Saturday, July 13, will feature the Ladies’ Singles Championship along with the Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Doubles Championship on ESPN with the Gentlemen’s Championship and Mixed Doubles Championship on Sunday. All other division championships will be available on ESPN+ within the ESPN App.
- As in the past, ESPN3 will offer a second screen experience for the semifinals and Championships.
Commentators
ESPN's crew includes host Chris McKendry; play-by-play announcers Chris Fowler and Cliff Drysdale; Jason Goodall, Patrick McEnroe and Pam Shriver all doing both analysis and PBP; and reporter Tom Rinaldi, who will also dabble in play-by-play. Darren Cahill, Chrissie Evert, Mary Joe Fernandez, Mardy Fish, Brad Gilbert, John McEnroe, Patrick Moratoglou and Rennae Stubbs are all analysts. Bethanie Mattek-Sands is listed as an analyst as well as an active player.
Cahill has worked only men’s matches since he began working as Simona Halep’s coach in 2016; that relationship ended over the winter, but he did not call any women’s matches in Australia in January. Moratoglou, who coaches Serena Williams, has worked both men's and women's matches since I started tracking announcers last year but spends far more time on set as a studio analyst.
Centre Court, which seats nearly 15,000 and has had a retractable roof for a decade, got a partner in covering when a new roof was unveiled on No. 1 Court in May. The second-most-prestigious court seats 11,360. No. 2 Court seats 4,000 and No. 3 Court seats half that. The remaining 14 courts are numbered 4-12 and 14-18; the old Court 13 stood where No. 2 Court is now.
Play traditionally begins on the outer courts at 11:30 a.m. local time (6:30 a.m. EDT), with the stadium courts following at 1 p.m. (8 a.m.). None of the outer courts are lit; there are lights on Centre Court and No. 1 Court when the roofs are closed, but the local government has an 11 p.m. local (6 p.m. EDT) curfew in place.

In a video posted Sunday explaining his preparations, Chris Fowler was watching video of Djokovic vs. Kohlschreiber at Indian Wells. I'd take that as a clue that he might be calling that match.
